Getting Involved
Gateway Charter School requires families to volunteer their time during the school year. Families are required to volunteer 20 hours for the first child and 10 hours for each additional child attending Gateway Charter School(maximum 30 hours per family). There are many opportunities to volunteer time at our school. This may include working in the classrooms, assisting with fundraisers and special events, attending workshops and Parent Co-Op meetings, helping in the cafeteria and library/media center, participating on a field trip, purchasing items for the classroom or school from our wish lists.
Parent Co-Op
Gateway Charter School truly believes that the involvement of parents in the education of a child is essential to maximizing student successes. Not only is academic communication important, the volunteer involvement of parents is important to benefit the programs of the school. The Gateway Charter Parent Co-Op (PTC)is structured in a manner that respects the importance of time with family, the engagement of the school community, and the opportunity to enrich the programs of the school for students. As a member of the GCS PTC, you will have many opportunities to assist, volunteer, and become a visible component of your student’s education. Special projects, fundraisers and events that celebrate and recognize students, require the energetic efforts of our PTC and community leaders.
Gateway Charter PTC will create monthly opportunities for parent involvement on a large scale that will allow hundreds of parents to assist and volunteer. Semester meetings will also be scheduled for a large group meeting opportunity allowing the ability to celebrate and recognize students, parent volunteers, and community leaders. A major component of the Gateway Charter PTC will be the team structure for events, fundraisers, and other identified needs of the school. A parent can focus their talents and areas of personal enjoyment with the events and opportunities at the school. Volunteer organizations thrive when they put the right volunteers in the right places. This increases retention of volunteers and the success of the organizational efforts. Gateway Charter intends to put these lessons into practice and harness the immense abilities and resources from within our school.
A Fundraising Committee will handle fundraising events. A Special Projects Committee will handle select projects and special events as needed throughout the school year. A School Spirit Committee will handle hospitality and “spirit” related events as needed throughout the school year. We encourage you to focus YOUR talents and areas of expertise with the events and opportunities of our school community
School Advisory Council
The purpose of the Gateway Charter School Advisory Council is to work to ensure improved student achievement. It's role is to serve as the appropriate avenue for authentic and representative input for all teachers, parents, support personnel, students, business community representatives and administration. Volunteer Info
Parents are required to volunteer 20 hours for the first child and 10 additional hours per additional child attending Gateway Charter School (maximum 30 hours per family). Hours are prorated to two hours a month if their children are accepted after school has begun. Half of the families' volunteer hours should be completed by December 15th. Volunteer hours are monitored monthly by Administration. It is very important that all parents participate and get involved in their child/ren's education.
Your child's teacher can provide you with ideas about the many ways you can assist in the classroom as well as after school hours in order to earn your volunteer hours. There are many opportunities for parents to assist at the school with or without planning ahead of time.
Remember to bring valid identification (drivers license or state issued id) when you are volunteering at a school. Please first stop at the main office to sign in, have your id scanned, and a badge issued to you. All volunteers must be scheduled with a teacher/staff member prior to volunteering or our office staff will identify a location in the school where your services are needed at that time.
Parents are required to log in their own volunteer hours on SIS.
Steps to entering volunteer hours:
1. Log in to SIS above.
2. Enter your username and password. Use the same username and password for logging in volunteer hours as you do to view your child's grades.
